FAQs Summer 2017
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SUMMER 2017
Is this an online charter school?
No, Temecula International Academy is a classroom based charter school.
What day does the school year start?
School will start on Tuesday August 20, 2018.
What time does schools start and end?
The school day will start Monday through Thursday:
7:45am - 2:45pm K-5th grade
8:30am - 3:15pm for 6th -7th grade.
What day is the minimum day?
Our minimum day will be Friday. School hours will be 7:45am to 12:15pm on minimum days.
Is the language program at TIA an immersion program, and what languages are offered K-8?
World language instruction is an important part of Temecula International Academy, but is using a foundational, not immersion approach. Students will begin with French in
Grades K-3, and can branch off to Spanish in 4th grade if they so choose. While we
recognize the interest level in learning Mandarin Chinese, it is not offered at area
high schools at this time, so instruction K-8 would not lead to success in advanced fluency after graduation from TIA.
Will students learn art and music?
Yes, these are significant parts of an integrated curriculum allowing students to explore other mediums while learning a subject. Our charter outlines the arts program through ArtsEdge from the Kennedy Center. While we will not have designated art and music teachers or rooms this year, the students will be using classroom space, the Multi Purpose Room, and when appropriate, the outdoors for activities.
Will you provide lunch services?
No. Parents will be required to provide lunch for their students this first year as we will not have a contracted lunch service. We continue to explore all options but do not have a full kitchen available on campus for 2017-2018.
What is the dress code policy?
There will be an official uniform to be worn every Monday, and for special events. Tuesday-Friday also have uniform requirements, but students will have a little more flexibility in what they want to wear.
When can we purchase uniforms?
Uniforms can be purchased 2 ways throughout the year. Locally through Printing Galore and also through an second online vendors although there can be delays in delivery times in August and September for the online French Toast Vendor
What is the school’s current enrollment?
233 students for the 2018-2019 School year.
All classes will be waitlisted except the upper school (6th and 7th grade)at this time.
Are you adding before school care? What are the times?
Yes, before school care will be starting at 7:00am. After school care will run until 5:30pm. Starting in August, parents will be able to sign up for child care. The hourly rate is $7.00.
How will parents learn RULER?
We are developing RULER faculty training in two phases as school starts, and as we continue through the first year. We will provide more in depth training for teachers who excel at RULER development within the school for them to become staff leaders for the program. We plan to start our parent meetings and education about RULER by September. Parent engagement in all aspects of the school, including this program, is one of our primary reportable goals for the 2018-2019 school year.
What do I need to do to volunteer?
All parent volunteers will need a current TB test and Live Scan fingerprinting (which will be available when school opens)
A meeting for the Parent Leadership Committee will be held at the start of school.
Will you have an after school sports program for middle school?
At this time we do not offer an organized school sports program. We anticipate by the 3rd -4th year when the school reaches full enrollment of 450 students to offer a program that will be supported by our enrollment.
